Share

ASUS has started shipping the Ascent QN10, the first mini PC powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite platform, featuring an 80 TOPS NPU. This NPU is designed for local AI tasks like language models, image processing, and automation workflows.

Unlike previous Windows on Arm mini PCs, which were developer-focused, the Ascent QN10 is aimed at general consumers. It comes with an anodized aluminum case, a 0.7-liter size, and a price tag of $1,349. The device offers access to Qualcomm’s AI Hub, which includes over 175 pre-optimized models and tools.

The Ascent QN10 is built around an 18-core Oryon CPU, Adreno X2-90 graphics, and up to 32GB of LPDDR5x memory. Storage options include 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB. It features two USB4 ports, four USB-A ports, HDMI 2.1, 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 6.0. The cooling system efficiently manages heat by drawing in fresh air and expelling it through separate paths.

This mini PC is a solid debut for the Snapdragon X2 Elite in a consumer-focused device. It’s worth noting that the Ascent QN10 is smaller than many mini PCs despite its extensive port selection. The device measures 5.1 by 5.1 by 1.5 inches and weighs 1.6 pounds, making it highly portable.

For those interested in local AI tasks, the Ascent QN10’s 80 TOPS NPU is a significant upgrade over previous models. It can handle tasks like running a 7B model locally at 25 tokens/sec. This makes it a strong contender for users needing local AI processing power in a compact form factor.

The Ascent QN10 is now available at Best Buy for $1,349. It remains to be seen if there will be significant market demand for a mini PC focused on AI that runs Windows on Arm, but it’s a compelling option for those needing local AI capabilities in a small package.
