Replacing the liquid metal thermal compound with a graphene sheet on an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H laptop CPU boosted performance by 35%. The laptop was previously throttling at 105°C, but the graphene sheet improved thermal conductivity, keeping temperatures around 85°C under load. This allowed the CPU to maintain higher clock speeds for longer, resulting in better overall performance.
The graphene sheet has a thermal conductivity of around 5000 W/mK, significantly higher than the 70 W/mK of the liquid metal it replaced. This makes it much more effective at dissipating heat, which is crucial for high-performance CPUs like the Core Ultra 9 285H.
This matters for mini PC users because better thermal management can lead to sustained high performance in compact form factors. For local AI users, this could mean more consistent inference speeds and reduced latency, as the CPU can handle more intensive tasks without throttling.
