GMKtec EVO-X5 Pro: 300B-Parameter Local AI Desktop

Share

GMKtec has unveiled the EVO-X5 Pro at IFA 2026, a desktop system capable of running large language models with up to 300 billion parameters locally, thanks to AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ PRO 495 processor. This processor combines 16 Zen 5 CPU cores, 32 threads, and boost speeds up to 5.2GHz, along with integrated AMD Radeon 8065S graphics and an AMD XDNA 2 NPU capable of up to 55 TOPS.

The EVO-X5 Pro can be configured with up to 192GB of unified LPDDR5X-8533 memory, with up to 160GB configurable as dedicated VRAM. This setup provides around 273GB/s of memory bandwidth, ensuring large AI models stay in memory for local inference. This is a significant advantage for users who want to experiment with large language models without relying on cloud computing.

Running AI locally also enhances data privacy, as sensitive information stays on the machine. GMKtec targets this system for environments like government, healthcare, financial services, and research labs, where data security is paramount. The system includes AMD DASH remote management, a dedicated RJ45 DASH network adapter, and a dTPM 2.0 security chip, supporting out-of-band management and validated for 24/7 operation.

Despite its compact form factor, the EVO-X5 Pro is not a basic mini PC. It features dual front USB4 ports, two rear full-featured USB4 V2 ports, eGPU support, 8K video output, and multi-system connectivity. Cooling is handled by a vapor chamber and a triple-fan system, with three performance modes to manage demanding workloads.

GMKtec positions the EVO-X5 Pro as part of the emerging “Agentic PC” category, where computers are expected to do more than run AI applications. They aim to understand tasks, reason through information, and assist with increasingly autonomous workflows. This shift reflects GMKtec’s broader strategy to target desktop systems capable of handling demanding AI workloads locally.

If you’re in the market for a mini PC that can handle serious AI tasks locally, the EVO-X5 Pro is worth considering. Its specifications and capabilities make it a strong contender for professional and enterprise use. For more details, check out the original article here.
